STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP OF THE HELLENIC ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER (HEC) GROUP

Green Ports and ZIMMERMANN Join Forces at the Port of Hamburg

Strategic  partnership for the next generation of integrated environmental services in shipping, industry, and port operations

Hamburg – Green Ports Hamburg GmbH, a subsidiary of the internationally active Greek group Hellenic Environmental Center (HEC), and ZIMMERMANN Sonderabfallentsorgung Nord GmbH & Co. KG, a company of the German group ZIMMERMANN, are joining forces to establish a joint venture at the Port of Hamburg.

The strategic partnership was officially announced on September 3, 2026, at the Hafenklub Hamburg, bringing together two business groups with significant experience in environmental management, shipping, and port services. The goal is to develop modern and integrated environmental solutions for shipping, industry, and port operations at one of Europe’s most important port hubs.

Two strong teams. A new force in Hamburg.

The new company will serve as a hub for integrated environmental management, providing specialized solutions for the collection, processing, recovery, and safe management of materials and waste.

This partnership combines the international experience of HEC and Green Ports in environmental and port services with ZIMMERMANN’s long-standing expertise in specialized environmental management, expanding the capabilities to provide comprehensive services to the shipping and industrial sectors.

“We are combining the expertise and experience of the two groups, creating a strong foundation for the development of the next generation of integrated environmental services at the Port of Hamburg,” said Georgios Moustakas, CEO of Green Ports Hamburg.

Combining infrastructure, expertise and operational capabilities

The partnership leverages the existing infrastructure and operational capabilities of the two groups, creating synergies and a more effective model for environmental management.

Customers will benefit from integrated solutions, shorter transportation distances, optimized processes, and more efficient use of resources, with the goal of improving operational efficiency and reducing the environmental footprint.

At the same time, the partnership strengthens environmental protection, the circular economy, and sustainable development in Hamburg and the wider region.

“This partnership allows us to combine the existing infrastructure and expertise of both business groups. Our customers will benefit from a comprehensive solution and more efficient management of environmental services,” said Christian Schult, Managing Director of ZIMMERMANN Sonderabfallentsorgung Nord GmbH & Co. KG.

Growth and New Opportunities

The new company will create additional jobs and new opportunities for professional development, while the exchange of know-how between the two groups will enhance knowledge transfer and innovation.

“Our companies have grown over decades as family-owned businesses. There is, therefore, a natural rapport between us. This shared philosophy provides an excellent foundation for our collaboration and for the next step in Hamburg,” said Ioannis Agiostratitis, CEO of Green Ports.

The establishment of the joint venture is a significant milestone for Green Ports and ZIMMERMANN, strengthening the position of both groups in the European environmental services sector and creating new growth opportunities in the German and broader European markets.

With shared expertise, complementary capabilities, and a common commitment to sustainability, Green Ports and ZIMMERMANN are embarking on a new joint journey in Hamburg, with the goal of helping to shape the next generation of integrated environmental services for shipping and industry.
